Head of the department
Peter Tsarkov was born on June 14, 1957. He graduated with honors from the Pirogov Moscow Medical Institute, and started working at National Research Center of Coloproctology. By 2000 he became a leading surgeon and researcher of the oncoproctology department, where he headed the research group of low rectal cancer treatment. In July 2006, Peter Tsarkov became the leader of newly created department of colorectal surgery in National Research Center of Surgery. In 1998 he acquired Ph.D. degree with thesis "Surgical rehabilitation of patients with low rectal cancer". Since 2007 Peter Tsarkov holds the title of professor of surgery. He is the director of educational course "Coloproctology" for students of the Faculty of Basic Medicine at Moscow State University. Since 2008 he is a senior lecturer of a course on advanced medical technologies in Coloproctology at the Department of continuing education in Kazan Medical University. Until 2006, Peter Tsarkov was chairman of the Board in the Association of ostomy patients, a board member of the Association of Coloproctologists of Russia and the editorial board of "Coloproctology". Since 2007 he is a member of the editorial board of the Moscow surgical journal. He is also a member of Russian Coloproctologists Association. Since 2008, Peter Tsarkov is Russian national representative in the International Society of University Colorectal Surgeons ISUCRS. Since 2008 he is a board member of Eurasian Colorectal Technologies Association ECTA, and in 2009 was elected as vice-president of this society. Peter Tsarkov is the owner of Russian Federation Government Award for the development of surgical rehabilitation of patients with colorectal cancer. Three of his works have been awarded international prizes and diplomas. Peter Tsarkov is the author of 17 inventions, more than 190 published works, published both in domestic and foreign magazines, including the Diseases of Colon & Rectum, Hepatogastroenterology, British Journal of Surgery, Techniques in Coloproctology etc. He wrote a chapter in the book "Rectal cancer" published in Spinger. He is an invited lecturer at several international conferences (the annual international conference on the basis of Cleveland Clinic Florida (USA), the European Biennial Conference on the basis of the clinic, the Ivrea, Italy). Peter Tsarkov performs the entire range of open and laparoscopic interventions on the pelvic organs and abdominal cavity. He is one of the pioneers in Russia of introducing to colorectal surgery extended lateral lymphadenectomy for rectal cancer, advanced lymph node dissection forcolon cancer, pouch restoration after colectomy, nerve-sparing techniques and transanal endomicrosurgery, various methods of surgical rehabilitation of ostomy patients, new methods of surgical treatment for obstructive defecation syndrome and pelvic organs descent. Special attention is drawn to treating patients with advanced primary and recurrent malignant tumors. Surgical treatment of such patients often requires multivisceral resection and resection of major vessels. With his participation several unique cases were performed, like removal of primary and recurrent formations of colon cancer with simultaneous resection of aorta, iliac and renal vessels, liver transplantation and one-stage colectomy. For his scientific and clinical activities Petr Tsarkov in 2008 was named "Person of the Year" of National Research Center of Surgery. |
