About the department

Department specializes in both standard and unique operations for various diseases of the colon, perineum and the pelvic organs.

The basic principle of our work is minimal in-hospital stay period and maximal efficiency of treatment. That's why the department is equipped with modern diagnostic and medical appliances. Our patients can have anesthesia supported endoscopy procedures (colonoscopy and gastroscopy), modern X-ray, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, including transvaginal and transrectal investigations. All of these help quickly, totally and comfortably examine the patient. Being a part of modern multi-specialty hospital our department has a unique opportunity to treat severe category of patients with different concomitant diseases of the cardiovascular, urinary, endocrine and musculoskeletal systems, to perform plastic reconstructions, undertake comprehensive rehabilitation of patients in the postoperative period. Many years of treating patients with colorectal disorders helped us develop an individualized pproach to different diseases of the perineum, anal canal, rectum and colon in accordance with international standards.

We perform:

  • Mini-invasive outpatient surgery for in early stages of hemorrhoids – latex band ligation, sclerotherapy and other varieties of low-traumatic manipulations.
  • radical surgery for chronic hemorrhoids and anal fissures, anorectal fistulas and abscess, anal sphincter insufficiency.
  • operations for perineal and pelvic floor disorders – obstructive defecation syndrome, rectocele, rectal prolapse, genital and bladder prolapse, stress urinary incontinence. A full complex of preoperative investigations, including X-ray and MRI defecography, transrectal and transvaginal ultrasound, rectal manometry, urofluometry, cystometry, allows accurate diagnosis and helps to select the most optimal way of treatment
  • minimally invasive surgery for benign diseases of the colon and rectum (transanal endomicrosurgery, laparoscopic colon resections)
  • surgical treatment of malignant colon tumors. Open and laparoscopic operations are performed with extended lymphadenectomyif needed, which provides high levels of disease-free survival of patients. In locally advanced tumors, involving adjacent organs and major blood vessels, extended radical surgery with plastic reconstruction provides good quality of life and enhances prognosis
  • surgical treatment of rectal cancer. We widely use functional-preserving radical surgery, which includes preservation of urination, sexual function and avoidance of stomas even for low locations. Close interaction with other departments allows us to perform extended surgical resections, even for advanced tumors with involvement of urinary and genital organs, pelvic bones, for patients with distant metastases in the liver, lungs and other organs.
  • Extended surgery for recurrent colon cancer, including removal of adjacent organs, even sacrectomy and major vessels resection.
  • treatment of colorectal cancer with distant metastases is carried out in conjunction with the department of surgery of the liver, lungs and department of neurosurgery.
  • Surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) is performed with the restoration of the natural intestinal course through the formation of J-shaped ileopouch, which is especially important for young, able-bodied patients.
  • reconstructive procedures for patients with a permanent stoma after obstructive resections and abdominoperineal excisions are performed jointly with the department of reconstructive surgery.
